Demulsifiers
Sceptre's Demulsifiers are specialty chemical formulations that break crude oil-water emulsions at production facilities, pipeline terminals, and crude oil processing plants — enabling rapid water separation to meet crude oil basic sediment and water (BS&W) export specifications and protecting downstream processing equipment.
Crude oil naturally forms stable water-in-oil emulsions as oil and water are co-produced through wellbore turbulence, pump action, and surface facility processing. These emulsions resist natural gravity separation and require chemical intervention to destabilize the interfacial film at the oil-water boundary. Our demulsifiers use blended polymer chemistries — resins, polyols, polyesters, and polyamines — optimized through bottle testing to match the specific emulsion characteristics of each crude.
Key Benefits & Features
BS&W Specification Achievement
Our demulsifier programs are bottle-tested and field-proven to drive crude oil BS&W content to <0.5% and <0.3% as required for pipeline and export terminal acceptance.
Rapid Emulsion Breaking
Advanced polymer chemistry provides fast interfacial film disruption and coalescence — reducing the retention time required in crude oil treaters and free water knockouts.
Tight Emulsion Treatment
Specific formulations for the notoriously difficult tight emulsions associated with heavy crude, waxy crude, and high-asphaltene crude systems.
Produced Water Quality
Effective demulsification produces clearly separated produced water with low oil-in-water content — protecting downstream water injection systems and reducing produced water treatment costs.
Low Treat Rate Efficiency
Optimized formulations achieve target separation at ultra-low treat rates (typically 10–100 ppm) — minimizing chemical cost per barrel of crude processed.
Compatibility with Production Chemicals
Our demulsifiers are screened for compatibility with corrosion inhibitors, scale inhibitors, H₂S scavengers, and other production chemicals to prevent interaction and re-emulsification.
